Registration Open - Heritage Resources Management course at Athabasca University
Athabasca University, in collaboration with Parks Canada, has developed a new undergraduate course on World Heritage Studies. It will be offered as a paced program starting in January and will run for 14 weeks.
Registration deadline: December 10, 2025.
The course explores the fundamental concepts and procedures used to identify, protect, and conserve World Heritage sites, concluding with discussions on global threats and contemporary challenges in the field. Case studies from Canada and around the world will illustrate different approaches to World Heritage conservation. During the final three weeks, participants will work independently on a research paper that synthesizes what they have learned.
The course will be offered online on D2L Brightspace and includes a few synchronous virtual meetings where participants exchange knowledge and experiences. It is offered in English, and open to all interested learners.
The course will:

provide an understanding of World Heritage concepts, processes, and tools;
examine current knowledge on the World Heritage Convention, its Operational Guidelines, and other supporting documents;
explore the meaning of Outstanding Universal Value and its attributes as the key threshold to inscription on the World Heritage List; and
