It is comprised of four churches - the Anglican Cathedral, Gower Street United Church, St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, and the Basilica of St. John the Baptist, and associated properties such as schools, libraries, residences, convents, cemeteries and historic cultural landscapes. As well as serving as working churches, the district offers vibrant cultural programming to engage tourists, visitors and audiences. But it faces threats from climate change, non-conforming developments and new construction inside the district's boundaries, and an urgent need to restore, preserve, and interpret its irreplaceable properties, artworks, and heritage features to avoid loss.
