This international seminar will address the growing challenges to understanding narratives of war at heritage sites. The inclusion of underrepresented voices related to war is necessary for a balanced understanding of history and countering disinformation, bias, and discrimination. Our goal is to collect the best practices for interpreting and presenting heritage sites related to various human rights issues during wartime. We will also advocate for the role of civil society and media for a balanced delivery of holistic history in countering historical revisionism and the spread of fake news. Additionally, we aim to promote future generations’ understanding of and participation in approaching history and human rights issues through heritage interpretation.

The event is open to all interested individuals. The seminar will be held in the Zuidas Botanical Garden in Amsterdam, and will also be accessible on Zoom. You can find the full program and register through this portal.
 

CALL FOR STUDENT ABSTRACTS

Understanding wartime narratives in the digital age

DEADLINE MAY 20th

As part of the above-mentioned seminar, we are looking for three students to present their research in Amsterdam! The students’ presentation can cover a variety of topics, such as (1) how younger generations perceive heritage interpretation related to wartime, (2) case studies of successful heritage interpretation and its impact, (3) the influence of different platforms (e.g. media, academia, heritage sites, schools, museums, etc.) on heritage interpretation, and (4) potential policy recommendations for promoting accurate and appropriate heritage interpretation.
