This November, the World Heritage convention turns 50. It is a great opportunity for the global community to celebrate the successes of heritage protection and give visibility to groups that need better representation: communities, local custodians and civil society. At this important moment, we reflect and look forward. OurWorldHeritage has organised OWHvoices, taking place on 14 and 15 November 2022. We bring forward the conclusions of #2021debate with inputs from various members of civil society, and advocate for greater civil society participation in World Heritage protection and for natural and cultural heritage of all types. We hope you will register and join us online!

What was heard during #2021debate from 600+ speakers and thousands of participants, is that people care deeply about their heritage. It clearly revealed the need for more involvement of these groups, to address the challenges faced and the opportunities for natural and cultural heritage to be part of the solution for the next 50 years of World Heritage and beyond. The World Heritage Convention represents global leadership in heritage conservation processes. The OWHvoices SYMPOSIUM calls to address the diverse challenges and pressing issues of the 21st century, specifically when it comes to the representation and visibility of communities, local custodians and civil society.

SESSION 1: Protecting our Heritage - Citizens and Communities
SESSION 2: Promoting Skills and Awareness
SESSION 3: Strengthening heritage governance and management
SESSION 4: Engaging international heritage organisations

Representatives from regional and international organisations active in heritage advocacy and citizens participation will present short statements, followed by discussions in a round table format. 
 

Places and Cultures in Transition: Heritage Challenges for the Future

THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 17 - in the Refectory of Santa Croce (Florence, Italy) and hopefully live-streamed.

This session is a lecture series organised in collaboration with the Romualdo Del Bianco Foundation in Florence (Italy) as part of the weeklong festival β€œThe World In Florence”. The session will be recorded, and we are in the process of enabling a livestream. Keep an eye on this webpage…!
